A member of the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Section of Environment, Energy, and Resources, Zach Pilchen is an attorney who has gained experience in environmental law through roles with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the District of Oregon, Perkins Coie, LLP, and the Northwest Environmental Defense Center. A Shaw Graduate Fellow in Administrative Law, Zach Pilchen earned a master of laws degree in energy and environmental law from George Washington University Law School (GW Law) with highest honors.

While GW Law’s Environmental and Energy Law Program has been in existence for nearly 50 years, it has placed an increased emphasis on energy law over the past decade. In addition to offering new classes on this topic, the law school established the Sustainable Energy Initiative as a thought-leadership platform to advance the creation of legal structures governing complex energy systems. Its primary goal is to ensure access to reliable and affordable clean energy resources via research and educational forums on energy policy issues.

In the past, the Sustainable Energy Initiative has hosted “Collaborative Conversations” series and partnered with groups such as the Energy Bar Association (EBA) and the ABA’s Section on Energy & the Environment to host forums and conferences. Its first major event was in 2013, when it co-sponsored the EBA’s Mid-Year Meeting.
